October 8th is Indie Author Day! Rita will be participating from 1:00—5:00pm at the Berkeley Public Library  (2090 Kittridge) along with other local authors and publishers. Indie Author Day is celebrated across North America in recognition of indie writers and presses. October 15th is LitCrawl, the festive finale of events for Litquake 2016. Rita will be joining seven other authors from She Writes Press (SWP) as they read from their books during the Phase I slot. You’ll find them from 6:00—7:00pm at Skunkfunk, 302 Valencia Street, one of the Mission District’s eclectic shops. Litquake is the largest independent literary festival on the West Coast, and Lit Crawl (sometimes referred to as a bacchanal) provides diverse readings all evening long on Litquake’s last day. Merriment ensues. The Mission is an easy BART ride from the East Bay, so come join the fun! Full Lit Crawl schedule can be found at this link: https://litcrawlsanfrancisco2016.sched.org/

November 15th is the pub date for The Magic of Memoir, a collection of stories by 38 writers of memoir, and edited by Linda Joy Myers, president and founder of the National Association of Memoir Writers and Brooke Warner, publisher of She Writes Press and president of Warner Coaching—both editors are authors of multiple books about memoir writing. Rita’s essay From Fear to Freedom: A Memoir’s Journey, was selected for this anthology of stories and tips from writers who’ve successfully navigated their way through the process of writing life stories. A “memoirist’s companion for when the going gets tough,” the collection also includes interviews with high-profile writers whose inspiring stories shine their own light  and encouragement on the subject. This is the perfect gift to give anyone thinking of writing a memoir. For details or to pre-order visit the Amazon book link: http://amzn.to/2c1BlZX.
