While Jennifer Monahan has always felt connected to the spirit world, she didn’t fully realize how it had been orchestrating her life until a spur-of-the-moment trip to Yucatan, Mexico and a chance meeting with a Mayan shaman changed her life forever.

This is the true story of Monahan’s journey to finding and living her life purpose as a shaman.

Filled with wisdom from her spirit guides and teachers that can benefit others looking for their life purpose, This Trip Will Change Your Life: Shaman’s Story of Spirit Evolution shows how finding her true path made all the synchronistic “threads” in Monahan’s life come together into a beautifully woven tapestry and life purpose that she could have never imagined on her own.

Jennifer Monahan is a business strategy consultant turned Mayan-trained shaman who incorporates natural health (more…)

Book Party: My Life on the Ragged Paths of Pan by Thanasis Maskaleris 🗓

LEFT COAST WRITERS FERRY PLAZA BOOK PARTY:  My Life on the Ragged Paths of Pan: Selected Poems and Translations with Author Thanasis Maskaleris

Thanasis Maskaleris

Monday, January 9th, 2017 || 6pm Book Passage || San Francisco 1 Ferry Building, San Francisco ||www.bookpassage.com

Could it be poetic pandemonium or something more restrained? My Life on the Ragged Paths of Pan: Selected Poems and Translations is a unique book. It contains 40 original poems written by the author, divided into the early and late periods of his long career as a poet. The book also contains 25 poems, translated by Maskaleris, from 11 of Greece’s greatest poets: Elytis, Embirikos, Engonopoulos, Gatsos, Karelli, Kavafis, Kazantzakis, Ritsos, Sikelianos, Varnalis, and Vrettakos.

In the book’s Preface, Thanasis writes: “I always strove, as a poet, to capture/express a feeling alive in me; or an idea/social concern. Landscapes that filled me with their beauty, and human beings that touched my heart are often at the center of my poems. My poetry sought to capture and revivify essential moments of my life—moments of beauty and humanity …”

Like the journey home to Ithaka, this is a book to be enjoyed slowly, savoring its freshness, beauty, and wisdom.

Thanasis Maskaleris was born in Arkadia, Greece and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 17. He studied Philosophy and English at the University of Oklahoma, and Comparative Literature at Indiana University and the University of California-Berkeley. He has written original poetry in Greek and in English, and has translated contemporary Greek poetry extensively. Professor Maskaleris has taught Comparative Literature, Classics and (more…)

Left Coast Writers® Live: Wanderland Writers 🗓

Melinda Adams AKA LilyCat

On Sunday, December 18th from 12-2pm, join Left Coast Writers® Live on FCCFREE RADIO’s popular show, Lilycat on Stuff. Lilycat’s guest on Sunday will be Wanderland Writers.

Lovers of travel, Spain and sunny southern climes: You are invited to join the editors and contributing writers for the fifth book in the award-winning Wanderland series, Wandering in Andalusia: The Soul of Southern Spain for a book launch featuring wine, tapas and literary treats.

It’s interesting that the Wanderland Writers generally tend to head south in their explorations, and nowhere was the southerly route more rewarding than in Andalusia. On this latest adventure, workshop leaders Linda Watanabe McFerrin and Joanna Biggar led the writers on a search for the soul of Southern Spain. Along the way they discovered a country ripe with contradiction: an arid landscape filled with lush gardens; the practice of elaborate Christian rituals in churches echoing a rich Islamic past; a land of bullfighters, gypsies, poets, philosophers and scholars; a place where duende and alegría coexist. As they spread out in this inviting territory, they encountered—and wrote about—Columbus and the Christian (more…)

wanderinginandalusiacover_sMonday, December 12th, 2016 || 6pm Book Passage || San Francisco 1 Ferry Building, San Francisco ||www.bookpassage.com

Join us for an evening in fabulosa España! We are celebrating the publication of Wandering in Andalusia, the fifth anthology in the award-winning Wandering series.

In many ways, Andalusia, situated as it is, at the southern boundary of the Iberian Peninsula, is a crossroads, a caravansary where settlers from northern Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East have left their mark. Our writers went from Córdoba to Málaga, from Granada and its Alhambra to Cadíz to bring back stories of cities, rivers, coasts, plains, food, spirit and passion. All embarked upon new roads of discovery, and all were well rewarded in their investigations. These, after all, are the landscapes that inspired Cervantes, Lorca, Machado, Navarro, Unamuno, Hemingway, Conrad and Menocal. (more…)

Dick Jordan grew up in Seattle, Washington. At age 7, he donned a suit and tie, climbed aboard a United Airlines DC-6, and took his first big trip: Up to Vancouver, British Columbia, for the day, back to Seattle the same evening by train. As a teenager at the end of the heyday of U.S. passenger train travel, he rode the rails to and from Miami Beach. In between these two “Big City Trips”, he learned to appreciate the outdoor wonders of the West by joining the quintessential “F Troop” of the Boy Scouts and camping in the rain and mud of Western Washington.

His service in the U.S. Air Force took him to Texas, Indiana, and the Far East. Along the way he spent nine months (more…)

Left Coast Writers® Live: Denise Pinhey 🗓

Melinda Adams AKA LilyCat

On Sunday, November 20th from 12-2pm, join Left Coast Writers® Live on FCCFREE RADIO’s popular show, Lilycat on Stuff. Lilycat’s guest on Sunday will be Denise Pinhey.

Denise Pinhey writes humorous stories. Her first novel, ““An Inch in Time” shines a humorous light on the awkwardness of the human condition, especially when it comes to social interaction. Denise Pinhey grew up in Saugus, California, a horsey, deer infested, country town famous for its rodeos and lax liquor laws. When she was old enough to drink, Denise married, joined a wine club and moved to Alamo, CA, a horsey, deer infested, country town famous for nothing.

Fans of A Confederacy of Dunces will love An Inch in Time, a strange and surreal romp through time and space that follows the life—and afterlife—of a young man named Justin Oliver Inch.

Inch spends his life mistakenly believing he’s a gifted writer after misunderstanding his third-grade teacher’s (more…)
