Gary Kamiya — A Fun Guy Sings a Love Song to San Francisco by Barbara Falconer Newhall
Left Coast Writer® Barbara Falconer Newhall has recently written a wonderful article about Gary Kamiya and his talk at the October Left Coast Writers® salon. You can find this story, along with many other great stories, articles and blog posts at Barbara’s website, http://barbarafalconernewhall.com.
Due to a common writing misstep, Gary Kamiya, a highly experienced writer and editor, found himself with only six months to write a 385-page book.
The San Francisco author and co-founder of Salon.com described his predicament earlier this month to a roomful of authors and author wannabes gathered in the writers room at the back of Book Passage, Marin county’s powerhouse independent bookstore.
It was the first day of Kamiya’s brand new job as executive editor of San Francisco magazine, but he had taken time out to cross the Golden Gate Bridge to read from his new book and to share writing tips with members of the Left Coast Writers salon.
The book was Cool Gray City of Love: 49 Views of San Francisco, which is selling very nicely in the San Francisco Bay Area, thank you, and has received a New York Times review that promises to make his (more…)
Review for New Gillian Bagwell Book
There are already great reviews coming in for Gillian Bagwell’s newest book, Venus in Winter. Gillian, as you will surely remember, is our July LCW Salon Presenter. She’ll also be using her background in theater to share tips on literary presentation and reading skills. This most recent praise comes from RT Book Reviews, which gave it 4 stars!
“Bagwell’s third novel is an engrossing look at a powerful woman in English history. Spanning age 12 through 40, the story moves at a nice pace through the life of four-time widow Bess of Hardwick. With the book’s rich descriptions, readers will feel as if they are right there among the pomp and circumstance of 1500s England, as Bess finds herself thrust into the glamorous, yet treacherous, court life of King Henry VIII. As Bess navigates her rise through society and secures her place in history, Venus in Winter becomes a worthy epic novel.”
—RT book Reviews
We are looking forward to this riveting new historical fiction novel from Gillian and so should you!

Great reviews for Riding Fury Home
As we all know our very own Left Coast Writer Chana Wilson has recently put out an amazing new book, Riding Fury Home. Of course it has received many glowing reviews, and we’d like to share some with all of you. Click the titles of the publication for the full review:
“As a work of socially relevant art, this memoir is above reproach. As a historical document, it is both lamentation of a shameful past and evidence of how far we’ve come.”
-Elizabeth Kenndedy, SF Chronicle
“It quickly becomes clear from the beginning pages of this memoir that although Chana Wilson is a first-time author, she is a masterful storyteller. This book is almost impossible to put down…”
-Rachel Pepper, The Bay Area Reporter
There are also great reviews in The Advocate, SF Weekly, and Seattle’s The Stanger, among others.
You can also read more about Chana’s book on her website, Facebook page, or buy a copy on Amazon or at a bookstore near you!
